Insurance-Covered Diapers & Pull-Ups for Special Needs Kids

If your child is still in diapers or pull-ups past the toddler years, you know how fast the cost adds up, month after month. We've been there with our son Theo. What many families don't know: Medicaid and many private insurance plans cover incontinence supplies for kids with a qualifying medical condition. This guide shows you how to find out whether your child qualifies.

Who may qualify

  • Children (under 18) and adults with a diagnosed medical condition related to incontinence, such as autism, epilepsy or another developmental or neurological condition
  • Families on Medicaid. Medicaid requires a diagnosed medical condition related to your child's incontinence.
  • Families with private insurance. Coverage depends on your plan.
  • Coverage, quantity limits and prior authorization vary by plan and by state.

How it works

  1. Fill out a short eligibility form (about 5 minutes). Have your insurance card ready.
  2. A continence care specialist works with your child's doctor to get the prescription.
  3. You get free samples so you can find the right fit.
  4. Supplies ship to your home every month, with text or email reminders to reorder.

Questions parents ask

Is it really free? If your child qualifies, many plans cover supplies at $0. Some plans have copays or limits. You'll know before anything ships.

My child is 4 (or 14). Is that too young or too old? Rules vary by state and plan. The eligibility form is the fastest way to find out.
